One of the cool things about North Palm Beach County airport is that it has a grass runway, which makes it easy to build and maintain your proficiency for doing soft field takeoffs and landings. It had been a while since I banged out some touch and goes, so Fred and I hopped in my old friend, Cessna 172 N21339, for some pattern work last weekend. I knocked the rust off my soft field technique with a couple of trips around on the pavement on 8R, then popped over to 8L and got to log some 'actual' soft field take offs and landings. I also practiced my emergency engine out technique with a spot landing before heading over to the grass runway. At club tach rates, it was only $42 for the 0.3 Tach time flight, instead of $70 for the 0.5 Hobbs time.
Actual flight details from our Mooney and Diamond:
Type of flight
Training Paid $37 Tach instead of $90 Hobb
Training Paid $216 Tach instead of $342 Hobb
Training Paid $45 Tach instead of $67 Hobb
Training Paid $72 Tach instead of $144 Hobb
x-country Paid $756 Tach instead of $972 Hobb
Savings over $490 on 5 flights when compared to Hobb rate rental. Pattern work can be 50% of Hobb!

Anyone flying a couple hours a month see great value. Our aircraft are not general flight line rentals, and we are looking at adding several more fine aircraft with increased membership. We are pilots that enjoy what you do; flying!
Call, write, or stop by.
Look forward to meeting you,
Fred, Jeff, and Steve.
We would like to personally wish everyone a great upcoming memorial day weekend. I’m sure some of you plan to spend the day remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, others are looking forward to some home cooked barbeque, and some are just planning to take a break from the daily grind. I encourage you to take a few minutes and head out to your local airport to celebrate an American freedom that we all hold dear – the freedom of flight.
Members of Palm Beach Flight Club will be in the office from 9am to 5pm this Saturday (tomorrow), May 25. Come by and introduce yourself and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the club.
If you get there before 1pm, and are ready to join, we’ll have a club instructor there that can give you a checkout in one of our aircraft, a Mooney M20J, Diamond DA40, or C172SP. Stop in and let us show you how you can fly less expensively through Tach time billing.
Save the date…. Saturday, June 8, 2013

Jeff and Fred got in touch with their inner artists this weekend and painted the logo on the wall above the flight planning desk at the new office. No one will be confused as to what office they are in now. Good work guys!
